MissHeard Media’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Hello friends! I truly believe that diversity is strength. When groups celebrate diversity, we can see new problems, imagine new solutions, and create a better, more empathetic world.
At MissHeard Media, we (OK, I!) work to ensure the inclusion of voices from all young women, femmes and non-binary people, regardless of their race, religion, sexuality, ability, country of origin, gender identity, income level, or other identity.
In this company’s history, MissHeard has welcomed fifty-two Teen Advisory Board Members and Ambassadors, approximately 53% white and 46% youth of color (including Black, Asian, and Latinx). At least 7% of TAB members have been openly LGBTQ+. Two of three adult advisors are Latinx. (Previously, no one was asked to disclose their sexuality, disability, or any other identity, so I do not have accurate statistics for those identities.) These numbers do not include guest bloggers.
In order to be a safe space for young women’s voices, MissHeard Media will continue to seek out, encourage, and elevate voices from members of marginalized communities. Future TAB applications will include spaces for self-identification to ensure that many more voices are heard. I will continue using graphics that reflect and represent our beautiful and diverse community.
Personally, I will continue learning from educators of color, those with disabilities, those who areĀ LGBTQIA+, and anti-racist and intersectional activists. I will take Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and anti-racist trainings, such as those offered by Rachel Cargle, vp wright, Monique Melton, Ibram X Kendi, Ijeoma Olou, Layla F. Saad and others. Finally, I will expand (and read!) my personal library to include more diverse voices.
Thank you for being a part of this community. I look forward to our shared journey and growth!
