October Theme: Girls Rights!
(and!) LGBTQ History & Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Call for Submissions

DYK: October 11th is the International Day of the Girl? The first Day of the Girl was dedicated in 2012 and looks at the “needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights,” according to the UN. All of the world, girls face additional obstacles, like period poverty, barriers to education, healthcare, and more.

October is also LGBTQ History Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month! These issues can intersect with girls’ rights and safety.

THIS MONTH, LET’S TALK ABOUT Girls.

Want to share, but aren’t sure where to start? Here are some ideas and questions to spark inspiration!

  • What do you think is the biggest obstacle facing girls today? In America? In the world?
  • What is a current obstacle to girls’ equality?
  • How can we make our communities/schools/families more welcoming to girls?
  • Share an important moment or highlight an individual integral in the LGBTQ Rights movement.
  • How can we prevent domestic violence?
  • Share a personal story related to rights, sexuality, and/or domestic violence.
  • Feature a youth-led movement
  • Interview or feature a youth leader
  • Make a playlist
  • Analyze a TV show, movie, or other piece of pop culture
  • Something else entirely! The sky’s the limit- we love to hear and share all kinds of ideas.

We invite you to share articles, interviews, listicles, personal essays, art, poetry, photography, playlists, music- whatever format helps you share your thoughts.

Please send your submission, along with a short, 1-2 sentence bio, and a photo (optional) to hello at missheardmedia dot com! You can also use the CONTACT tab.
